Following feedback and supply problems with the 16-bit ADC chip we had been using on our popular ADC Pi board which we sell on www.abelectronics.co.uk we have been working on a new version of the ADC board and we have now launched version 2 of the ADC Pi board.
The new version uses the MCP3424 ADC chip from Microchip and is an 18-bit version ADC. The new design also has an improved layout with better screening for the inputs and also has the facility to change the I2C addresses of the chips so it is now possible to stack 4 of these boards on a single Raspberry Pi giving 32 inputs. Due to the increased cost of the 18-bit ADC chips, additional components and the selection headers, there has been a small increase in the price of the boards but they are still much cheaper than other boards currently on the market which offer analogue to digital conversion for the Raspberry Pi.

New IO board project.
We are now working on a stackable general input/output IO board. Unlike many of the IO boards currently on the market which only offer a single IO facility such as GPIO buffering or I2C expansion the new IO Pi board will include an 8-way buffer for the GPIO ports, I2C logic level converter, 16 IO I2C based port expander, RS232 serial port and 1-wire interface with surge protection. The various sections of the board are currently being tested on breadboards and code demos are slowly being written in between the web development day jobs!
We plan is to launch the new IO Pi board in mid-December and we are planning to use this with the Delta Sigma board on a new version of our solar logging system with the addition of a new board to allow sections of the low voltage system to be switched automatically depending on load and battery voltage.
