Since installing Windows 8 earlier this month I haven’t been able to use Google Chrome as the default browser for links when opening from Google Talk.

Even when the Defaults control panel was showing Google Chrome as the default browser any links clicked in Google Talk would open in Internet Explorer and not Chrome as it should have.

A workaround for this bug is to install Mozilla Firefox and then set this as the default browser in the “Defaults” control panel as shown below by clicking the “Set this program as default” button.

Set Defaults

Once Firefox has been set as the default browser select Google Chrome and then click the “Set this program as default” button to set Google Chrome as the default browser again.

Set google chrome as default

After doing this any links clicked in Google Talk now open in Google Chrome !
